What’s Medicare Supplement Insurance going to do for me?
A “Med Supp” could be a complete gamechanger for you, if we’re being honest! Medicare Supplement Insurance is a private health insurance policy that was created to assist in paying some or all of the costs that aren’t otherwise covered by Medicare Parts A and B. In short, Medicare Supplement Insurance can help you reduce your overall out-of-pocket costs.
When am I eligible for Medicare Supplement Insurance?
If you’re eligible for Medicare parts A and B, you’re able to elect Medicare Supplement Insurance. (subject to open enrollment periods, etc. Ask us about eligibility)
Can I apply for Medical Supplement Insurance right now?
Maybe! Let’s dive in a bit deeper:
The six-month period from the date you enrolled in Medicare Part B if age 65 or older, or up to six-month after you turn 65 if you were eligible for Part B benefits before age 65 is considered your open enrollment period.
If you have a disability, you may become eligible for Medicare Part B benefits before age 65.
Does every doctor accept Medicare?
Unfortunately, not all doctors accept Medicare. Doctors are able to “opt out” if they choose. If you choose a doctor that has opted out of Medicare, they are able to set their own fees for their services. Worried your doctor may not be opted-in to Medicare payments? Let us help.
What about my prescription drug benefits?
Great question! There’s actually no prescription drug benefits that automatically come with Medicare. However, a Medicare Supplement can fill in the “gaps” of Part A (hospital and skilled nursing facility care) and Part B (doctor bills, etc). To fill in the “gaps” of prescription coverage, you’d have to elect an additional policy: Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan.
For prescription drug coverage, you can select a separate Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan. (Ask us how to secure this coverage.)
I just want a Medicare Supplement plan – not Medicare Part A or Part B. Can I do that?
You’re only eligible for a Medicare Supplement plan when you’re enrolled in Medicare in Part A and/or Part B.
Do I have to have a Medicare Supplement Insurance Policy?
Plain and simple? No, you do not, but we do encourage you to do so!
Also, you may be covered by other types of health policies previously elected. It is not common to be covered by these other types of policies, however, please reach out to us if you have any doubt so you’re not caught without important coverage.
I was told I’ll have to give up my own doctor. Is this true?
It may be possible to keep your doctor! Medicare Supplement plans have become more flexible over time and many people are able to stay with the doctor of their choice. We can help you understand if this is a possibility for you.
Let’s Talk!
Can I travel internationally and maintain my coverage?
Typically not. Medicare usually doesn’t cover your healthcare costs while you’re outside the U.S.
If you will be traveling outside the U.S., it may be important for you to purchase a Medigap or other type of policy. You should evaluate your options with a professional before making a decision.
I can’t afford my entire yearly premium up front. Is this required?
Absolutely not. In fact, there are many ways to pay. Let us show you the options you have to secure important coverage.
